FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY (EP)?

Exercise Physiology involves services targeting your physical and mental health and fitness through regular exercise. Exercise is prescribed for the prevention and/or treatment of chronic diseases and/or disabilities, and for professional guidance of athletes and others interested in athletics and sports training. --American Society of Exercise Physiologists.

HOW IS EP DIFFERENT FROM PERSONAL TRAINING?

The primary differences include the level of required education and ongoing certification as well as the type of service provided. See the Exercise Physiology page for details.

WHAT ARE YOUR QUALIFICATIONS?

I am a Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist holding a masters degree in Clinical Exercise Physiology, and a bachelors in Psychology. I maintain my certifications with the American College of Sports Medicine and the Exercise is Medicine® global health initiative. I have been in business since 2009, and prior to that spent many years coaching competitive and recreational gymnastics.

DO YOU OFFER FREE CONSULTATIONS?

Absolutely. The first step is for us to decide together if we are a good fit for each other. We start with a phone call and maybe add video if it's helpful. Following this I will provide a free assessment and trial session so you can try before you buy.

DO YOU HAVE A FACILITY?

F1T is an in-home service. My practice is fully individualized for each of my clients and is designed around the space and equipment you have in your home, as well as what I can bring with me. I currently use in-home visits, Zoom conferencing, local parks or a combination of options.

WHAT EQUIPMENT WILL I NEED?

At a minimum we will need an exercise mat. If we will be doing remote sessions, you will need a computer that supports video conferencing (I use Zoom). I make every attempt to use what you have - walls, stairs, doors, chairs, shoes, pets, ...

DO YOU WORK WITH CHILDREN?

I love working with children! There is no age limit for the value of productive movement. From my years of gymnastics coaching I have developed a wealth of techniques to ensure children have fun while building strength and flexibility, arming them with the right stuff to reach their potential and maintain their natural love for being active.

DO YOU OFFER GROUP SESSIONS?

Everyone's needs are different. True exercise therapy is highly individualized, limiting the effectiveness of group sessions. I sometimes work with families though, so call me and let's talk.

WHAT IS YOUR PRICING?

You will find the most common options on the Programs page. And of course custom programs are happily supported. In some cases, the cost may be partially covered by your health insurance. If you think FIT First may work for you, let's talk.

DO YOU SUPPORT OUTDOOR SESSIONS?

The great outdoors is the most inspiring gym we have!
